Eugene Marlow’s Heritage Ensemble is a quintet devoted to the concert performance of Hebraic liturgical and folksong melodies in various jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and neo-classical styles. For this performance the group consists of: Eugene Marlow (founder/leader/piano/arranger), Bobby Sanabria (drums), Todd Bashore (alto/soprano saxophones), Frank Wagner (acoustic bass), and Cristian Rivera (percussion). All arrangements are by founder/leader Eugene Marlow.
The Heritage Ensemble performed its unique set of arrangements most recently at the Eldridge Street Synagogue. On December 17, 2009 the quintet will perform a special Chanukah concert at Baruch College’s Performing Arts Center. Previously The Heritage Ensemble has performed at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Engelman Recital Hall (Baruch Performing Arts Center), the Conservative Synagogue of Fifth Avenue, the Riverdale YM-YMHA, Hunter College, the Society for the Advancement of Judaism, Symphony Space, and Tavern on the Green (New York City), among other venues.
Its inaugural CD, “Making the Music Our Own,” a collection of eight arrangements on the MEII Enterprises label (2006), is available at cdbaby.com.

we are a surviving people precisely because of our abilities to adapt to new realms and bring
our unique culture and philosophies always into the present."

"The Heritage Ensemble concert at the Riverdale Y was superb. We enjoyed it so much as it
encompassed both the Jewish music with which we are familiar and the jazz arrangements
that we all love so much. . . .Your group is a wonderful way to introduce young people to jazz, a genre that seems unfamiliar to younger generations. It's too good not to be shared by music lovers of all ages."
